Abstract

A precise histopathological diagnosis is dependent mainly on accurate visual analysis of tissue architecture, cellular morphology, and appearance. A number of oral lesions and tumors show cells having a granular appearance. These lesions either present with a typical granular cell appearance or granular cell changes in lesions, which usually have a different histological appearance. The present paper aims to review various granular cell lesions of the oral mucosa, jaws, and salivary glands with an attempted working classification based on the cause of the granular cell appearance.
